Abstract or Something...I'll quit giving the time and date updates any day now.. right now it seem important to monitor progress somehow...
Haven't caved... and (knock on wood) barring any out of this world intensely stressful situations, I don't see it happening. But I have to be careful about not predicting things, and just sort of go with it. Cravings come an go, for the most part I deal with them by riding, and that's about it. If its later, I can just veg. in front of the tv, or go to sleep. If I need to type, edit, concentrate - then I need a pacifier. For the moment, pringles do the trick, but in the long run that won't be too healthy, so that will have to change eventually.
Well, today, with my newfound stamina-boost, I decided to ride up the valley a ways and check out the lower end of the Hermosa Creek Trail. This is supposedly a world class nearly epic ride, that begins about 30 miles out of town, and follows the Hermosa Creek back towards town. I hear it is a 4 to 6 journey, mostly down hill, and through some the keenest singletrack in the country. I'm planning on doing this ride at some point this summer, as soon as I can find a shuttle to Purgatory where the trail head is. This is all a warm up for the Kennebec Pass ride I want to do later in the summer, but the elevation gain is something I'm going to have to work up to - over 6,000 feet in elevation gain... whew. But that one is supposed to seriously kick some behind. Okay, rambling...
The ride out to the "town" of Hermosa is basically a flat out burn, lol, on highway 550. They let you ride on the shoulder, and I have to admit, its a healthy shoulder at that. Quite wide, and quite clean/glass free as well. I think it's just 11 miles, and slightly uphill until you hit county road 201 (I think)... But I wasn't really content with just getting to Hermosa. I wanted to see some of this trail.
I should have just turned around.

Google Maps, Google Earth, and even that MS Livemaps or whatever its
called - have all captured my interest lately.. so I've spent a little
time mapping out my local rides and getting to know "digital Earth". The long blue line shows the ride from today, to Hermosa. In the lower left, that grouping of trails is the Telegraph Trails system.. about 25 miles or more maybe, of some pretty keen, and qutie varied singletrack. 8 minutes from my doorstep. The yellow line that goes out to the left, and up in to the mountains in the back... thats' the route out to Kennebec Pass, and then one returns through said mountains... Perhaps the most epic ride in the area.... Hmph is all I can say, but I'm sort of hooked on it now...11 miles on the flats is not a problem - that's how I spent my youth pretty much, and pretty much half my of "oldth" too. BMX bikes only had one gear, and my friends and myself pretty much navigated a small city on them. Well, once I started on the county road, I think it said three miles to the trail head or parking or something... no sweat. Yeah... then the road curves, then the road goes up. and up, and up... grrrr. I'm guessing from the info on google maps and veloroutes or whatever - it was about a thousand feet... bah.
The climb was worth it - out here, it usually is, (provided you actually have a road...) beautiful mountain scenery, you could hear the creek rushing through the valley below... lighting was pretty keen.. the view wasn't super intense or interesting/photogenic, but still pretty. Difficult to get a photo that captured the feeling.
This was about the best shot available.... and has suffered considerable color tweaking...
After eating a sandwich and downing half of my Gatorade special edition Tiger Woods formula, I headed back down, but not on the road. On the way up I noticed some singletrack down near the river/creek, and decided to try to find it. How hard could it be? only have to go down, eventually I'll hit it. After a little hike-a-biking, I did hook up with the trail, and followed it back down to the highway.. nice little trail, but it ended up throwing me in to a private ranch/sub-division -first. It was perhaps the oldest looking buildings/ranches/haciendas in the area, and the only one that was sort of restricted... anyhow..
Ride back to town was like any ride where you enjoy a nice ride out - the wind was in my face the entire time, but at least it was gradually downhill, so it sort of negated the wind (HA - bastard wind!). Got to watch a couple gliders get towed in to the air, never really saw that happen before...
Stopped at Serious Texas BBQ again on the way home, can't help it - they have one on either end of town, so they get you either way

Oh.. forgot to mention this one yesterday... I have a pair of sunglasses that I've managed to hold on to for almost 2 years now, and finally, I ended up inadvertently smashing them the other day. So.. I bust out the superglue, and get them all back together. Try them on to make sure the frames held, are relatively straight and all that. Then I feel something strange against my eyebrow, and then m right eye is overcome with superglue fumes. Guess that stuff wasn't dry just yet. I was lucky enough not to fuse them to my face, but now I have glob of superglue adhered to the eyebrow. Trimmed the majority of it out.. but damn.. total stoner moment...
and well, that's about it... thanks for stopping in, and for all the kind word

Have a smashing week....

I dont know how you all do it, but my devwatch gets pretty crazy sometimes. I mean, theres no way I could comment on each and every piece in there
Sometimes, or rather, a lot of times, Ill really dig a piece, and it will sit in my watch for days, maybe even weeks, so I can refer back to it. Below are some of the current residents of DevWatch bed n breakfast

GRITMy first Book, and only book to date...
AVAILABLE HERE
The book is black and white, printed on a heavy, light cream colored newsprint - just like a paperback, and uses a visible halftone - It's far from pretty, but the process does a good job of bringing all the images together into one sort of "peice". Definately better than 'zine' photocopy quality, but not anything like one may find in "Aperture".

A true artist has had his heart ripped to more pieces than there are people on Earth. He knows loss, is unafraid and looks the Devil in the face each night as he brushes his teeth.
